Greenwich Memorial Day – May 27, 2016
The parade stepped off at 9:00 a.m. and proceeded through the downtown and back to the park. Richard Starcher, Commander of the local American Legion Post welcomed the large crowd that was assembled. Rev. Lori Douglas Weaver gave the Opening Prayer. The South Central Band played a medley of Patriotic Hymns. Mr. Starcher introduced the two speakers for the occasion. Army Ssgt. Larry Duncan and Scott R. Hartley, USAAF Msgt. (Retired). The Flag was then lowered to half staff to recognize the fallen and the S.C. Band played the National Anthem. Mr. Starcher announced the local veterans’ names that had passed this year. Mr. Bovia announced that the Greenwich Improvement Group’s project to greatly enhance the Memorial at the Village Park was about to get underway. Plans, drawings, and ideas for the Memorial project are welcome. Please contact Gayle Bovia or Cles Inmon. The Rev. Lori Douglas Weaver gave the Benediction.
